Karesse Mitchell, cofounder of Kreative Kourses, is a native of Houston, Texas. She and her partner began their company in 2006. Their vision was centered on a love for education. Mitchell stated, “For my 5th birthday, the only item on my wish list was a chalkboard. The following Christmas, all I wanted Santa to bring me was a gradebook. While most little girls wanted to be princesses, models and actresses, I wanted to be a teacher.”
Mitchell began her teaching journey early, babysitting and tutoring at the age of 12. Karesse attended Lamar University and balanced a collegiate Track and Field scholarship with a double major in Elementary and Deaf Education. She returned to Lamar University in 2013 to complete her Master’s Degree in Education and Teacher Leadership. In her spare time, Mitchell enjoys travelling with friends, visiting new restaurants with her husband, and watching sports with her son.
After being in the teaching profession for nearly nine years, Mitchell discovered that teaching did not offer enough opportunities to fulfill her desire of reaching students individually. For this reason, she decided to serve her Southeast Texas community of students in a more intimate way. “Tutoring offers the one-ono-ne attention that most students desperately need in order to succeed. In my sessions, I stress the importance of grasping academic concepts, but I also focus on building confidence in each of my students, especially in mathematics.”
With the best tutoring available in Southeast Texas, parents need not look far for quality tutors that care not only about curriculum but also about student success. Mitchell ensures that all of the tutors at Kreative Kourses know their job reaches beyond a knowledge of concepts; their goal is to instill self-reliance in the students as well. Mitchell goes on to say, “I believe that all students can learn, and I plan to prove this, one student at a time!”
